The Columbia Festival Orchestra’s 2008 opportunities for students continue…
The members of Flute Force, a professional flute quartet, led a workshop/music-reading session with area flute students immediately following Flute Force’s shimmering performanc at St. James Church in Chatham on Sunday, October 19. An enthusiastic assembly of 16 flute students from the Columbia/Berkshire/Capital region worked through a new composition, Alabama Panorama, written by Flute Force Member Elizabeth Brown. Members of Flute Force offered suggestions and techniques and performed with the students on Alabama Panorama, written for a double quartet of flutes by Ms. Brown for the National Flute Association. The workshop was sponsored by the Columbia Festival Orchestra’s new mentoring program “Take a Seat…in the Orchestra,” supported in part by a generous grant from First Niagara Bank’s “Mentoring Matters” program.
